Stouffville, ON (July 28, 2010) 16 of Canada’s top junior golfers took to the Granite Golf Club this morning looking to accomplish the same goal, to lead their team to a victory at the 2010 Lipton Brisk Canada Cup.  Team East was leading the tournament after the second round by a score of 5 to 3.  Today’s format of play was singles matches where players faced off one-on-one in twosomes.  The West needed a big day as their opponents only needed 3 points to retain the Cup.  The West was able to do just that taking 6 of an available 8 points on the final day making the final score West-9 East-6.  This is the West’s first victory since 2005.  “I knew we had it in us, we have been playing good golf all week and catching some bad breaks and it finally went our way today and I couldn’t be happier and prouder” said Claudine Foong, Team West Non-Playing Captain.  “We knew that it was still anyone’s tournament heading in to the singles matches and the West team simply played better golf today.  I have been very impressed with the calibre of golf that I have seen over the course of the week and wish all players the best of luck in the future” explained Cory Jones, Team East Non-Playing Captain.

Team East and West Split Second Round Points at 8th Annual Lipton Brisk Canada Cup

Stouffville, ON (July 27, 2010) Once again players were greeted with beautiful weather for the second round of the 2010 Lipton Brisk Canada Cup at the Granite Golf Club in Stouffville, ON. Today’s format of play was foursome matches also known as alternate shot. Alternate shot is the most testing format played during the Lipton Brisk Canada Cup as players must be able to rely on one another heavily during the course of the round. Team West took to the course today looking to close the gap that was formed between themselves and Team East yesterday. Unfortunately they were not able to close that gap but they ensured that it was not made any bigger. Some matches were won wire to wire while others were absolute roller coaster rides providing some exciting entertainment for all to watch during this Tuesday morning. Each side was able to earn 2 points each today leaving the Team East with 5 points going in to the final round and Team West with 3. “I was pleased with the way Team East performed today, no one gave up today as we were able to battle back from a front nine deficit in one match to convert a point. I am very proud of my team!” said Cory Jones, Team East Non-Playing Captain.  “We played well today and were able to earn 1 more point than we did yesterday so we are making progress as a team and it is anyone’s tournament out there tomorrow” exclaimed Claudine Foong, Team West Non-Playing Captain.

Team East Takes the Early Lead at the 8th Annual Lipton Brisk Canada Cup

Stouffville, ON (July 26, 2010) Warm weather and sunny skies greeted 16 of Canada’s top junior golfers at the Granite Golf Club in Stouffville, ON for the first round of the 8th Annual Lipton Brisk Canada Cup. The Lipton Brisk Canada Cup is a 3 day Ryder Cup Format event between 8 players from the Western side of Canada (Manitoba to British Columbia) and 8 players from the Eastern side of Canada (Ontario to the Maritimes). During the first round players were tested with fourball matches where each player played their own ball and the best score from each side was the one that counted towards the match. Team East most certainly had the upper hand going in to the first round as they did not have to deal with a significant time change on top of the already early tee times. Team East was able to take advantage of that factor and took 3 of an available 4 points on the first day. “I was very impressed with both the East and West Teams, saw a lot of great shots out there and the competition should only get better as the week moves on” explained Team East Non-Playing Captain Cory Jones. Non-Playing Captain for Team West, Claudine Foong is optimistic towards the rest of the week as she had this to say, “I am very proud of how Team West played today, we are very excited for foursome matches tomorrow and think that it will be a tight fight to the finish!”
